6. Game Guidance

Customize in-game messages. Clear guidance helps players know what to do and stay safe.

How It Works

Each text field starts with auto-generated content based on your game options. You can:

  • Use the default text as-is
  • Modify it to add your personal touch
  • Replace it completely with your own content
Tip: The default text automatically adjusts based on your game options (like checkpoint order, time limits, etc.). Review it before making changes – it might already be perfect!

The Four Text Types

Instructions

When shown: Before the game starts, in the player lobby

Purpose: Explain the game rules and what players need to do

What to include:

  • Basic gameplay explanation
  • Any special rules for your event
  • What players should bring or prepare
  • Meeting point or starting information

Example additions:

  • “Teams should stay together at all times”
  • “Take photos that clearly show the landmark”
  • “There are refreshments at the finish line!”

Responsibility

When shown: When players join – they must accept before starting

Purpose: Inform players about their responsibilities and safety

What to include:

  • Safety reminders (watch for traffic, stay on paths, etc.)
  • Personal responsibility acknowledgment
  • Rules about private property
  • Any liability disclaimers
Important: Players must accept this text before they can participate. Make sure it covers any safety and liability concerns for your event.

Emergency

When shown: During gameplay (accessible via menu) and when time limit is reached

Purpose: Provide emergency contact information and safety guidelines

What to include:

  • Emergency phone numbers (local emergency services)
  • Your contact information as organizer
  • Meeting point if something goes wrong
  • What to do in case of injury or emergency

Example:

“Emergency: Call 112. Event organizer: +31 6 12345678. If you get lost or hurt, stop playing and contact us immediately. Meeting point: Central Station entrance.”

Time Limit

When shown: When a player’s time runs out

Purpose: Tell players what to do when time expires

What to include:

  • Where to go next (if “Last” option is not enabled)
  • What happens to their score
  • Any post-game information
Note: If you enabled “Last” in the Action After Time Limit option, players will automatically see a map to the finish. Your time limit text appears alongside that map.

Editing Guidelines

When to Edit

  • To add event-specific information
  • To include your contact details
  • To set the right tone for your audience
  • To add details the auto-text doesn’t cover

Editing Tips

  • Keep it clear: Players will read this on their phones, often while moving
  • Be concise: Shorter is better – get to the point
  • Use simple language: Avoid jargon or complex sentences
  • Include contact info: Especially in Emergency text

Reset to Defaults

If you want to start fresh, use the Reset button to restore all texts to their auto-generated defaults.

Warning: Resetting will erase all your customizations and cannot be undone.

Trial Game Limitations

If you’re using a trial game, the text fields are locked to their default values. Upgrade to a full game to customize all text content.

Best Practices

  1. Review first: Read the auto-generated text before making changes
  2. Test readability: Read your text out loud – is it easy to understand?
  3. Include essentials: Emergency contact info is crucial
  4. Match your audience: Formal for corporate events, casual for friends
  5. Proofread: Check for typos and errors before proceeding
