Two Participation Modes
Choose how players will join your game:
Self-Registered Mode
Players enter their own name when they join.
- How it works: Players type their name when opening the game link
- Team play: Not available in this mode
- Best for: Open events, large groups, or when you don’t know who will participate
Tip: Self-registered mode is simpler to set up but gives you less control over who participates. Use this for casual games or public events.
Defined Mode
You create a list of players ahead of time, and players select themselves from the list.
- How it works: You add player names, players choose their name when joining
- Team play: Available – organize players into teams
- Best for: Corporate events, organized groups, team competitions

How Team Play Works
When players are organized into teams:
- Shared timer: All team members share the same game clock
- Shared map: All team members see the same checkpoint status
- Any member can check in: When one team member submits a photo, it counts for the whole team
- Collaboration: Teams can split up to cover more ground, or work together
Important: The team timer starts when the FIRST team member begins the game. Make sure teammates coordinate their start!

Choosing the Right Mode
| Scenario | Recommended Mode |
|---|---|
| Public event, unknown participants | Self-Registered |
| Team building activity | Defined (with teams) |
| Birthday party scavenger hunt | Either – depends on group size |
| Competitive individual race | Defined (individual players) |
| Small group of friends | Self-Registered (simpler) |
Tips for This Step
- Get the names right: Players select from the list you create, so spell names correctly
- Balance teams: For fair competition, try to have equal team sizes
- Consider adding extra slots: In Defined mode, add a few extra player slots in case of last-minute additions
- Communicate: Let players know whether they’ll be entering their name or selecting from a list
